  • 10 days celebration for Burns Night - Free Download

Traditionally this is the annual celebratory tribute to the life, works and spirit of the great Scottish poet, Robert Burns (1759-1796). Celebrated on, or about, the Bard's birthday, January 25th, Burns Suppers range from stentoriously formal gatherings of esthetes and scholars to uproariously informal rave-ups of drunkards and louts. Most Burns Suppers fall in the middle of this range, and adhere, more or less, to some sort of time honoured form which includes the eating of a traditional Scottish meal, the drinking of Scotch whisky, and the recitation of works by, about, and in the spirit of the Bard.

The bigburnssupper focusses more on celebration than scholarship.

Great for Burns night, or for NEW YEAR's EVE

The lyrics with the Burns music have been rendered into english. It was felt that this was preferable to risking scottish ire owing to inappropriate cultural appropriation.

  • Christmas CDs including Brand New Album!

Why not request or give Ukulele Orchestra CDs for Christmas.

Consider these FOUR albums released in 2016, including the brand-new double album, "The Originals", schedule for release and due to be promoted at gigs in Cologne and the London Palladium in November 2016.

    Album 1:

"The Originals". The long-awaited DOUBLE ALBUM of songs written and sung by the performers of the Ukulele Orchestra. A first; an entire album without the groups alleged trade-mark twisted-cover-versions. But just a minute! Each song seems to be presented not only by the orchestra with full ukulele accompaniment but also in versions without ukuleles. Could it be that these are ukulele originals, but that they original artists played cover versions on electric guitars and piano?

A trip round London in song and melody, produced by Dai Watts, moving sonically from city square to alley, from basement club to cathedral, from pub-rock and rollicking knees-up to haunting reminiscence of Eliot's Wasteland.

Includes: "Young Again", "Off Round the World". "Lager and Glue", and the original whistling classic "The Mercenary and the Crow".

    Album 2:

"(Ever Such) Pretty Girls", 20th Century Punk Rock Classics, songs written in the 70s, recorded by the UOGB in the '90s, released in 2016.

Includes: "Yeah Baby that's Really Free", "Oh Bondage Up Yours", "One Chord Wonders", "My Baby does Good Sculptures".

    Album 3:

"The Keeper", A commissioned work. Songs and dances from England and America, from Folk Song collector Cecil Sharp's work.

Includes multi-part instrumental works like "The Lover's Luck", and songs such as "The Butcher Boy", "Down in Yon Forest" and the title track :The Keeper" (among the leaves so green-oh).

    Album 4:

"Lousy War". A commissioned work. World Music from the period of the first world war.

Includes trench songs, "Colonel Bogey", a glimpse of the Cabaret Voltaire, German and French Music, "March of the Women", the contemporaneous music hall song "Has Anyone seen a German Band", "Hanging on the old Barbed Wire", and a gypsy tune the orchestra played live on BBC Radio 3.

    Christmas Album:

Or if you want your CD with a Christmas theme then buy "Never Mind the Reindeer". Recordings of many ukulele-only instrumental cares and seasonal tunes, a newly re-pressed old favourite UOGB album, perfect for Christmas morning listening. Lovely arrangements.

Includes: "The Holly and the Ivy", "I Saw Three Ships", "Rocking Carol", Jingle Bells". "Dr Pagdin's favourite ukulele CD".
